Doctrinal Statement

Doctrinal Statement

God the Creator –  We believe God made His creation perfect and without flaw, declaring it “good” after each day (Gen. 1). We believe in the transcendence of God. He is distinct from His creation and is exalted above everything in it. He rules in infinite majesty.  We have a picture in Isaiah of  God being “wholly other”, sitting on His throne, “lofty and exalted” (Isa 6:1, Isa 66:1).

Trinity:
We believe in the Triune God, three-in-one: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of one substance, coeternal and interdependent (Matt 28:19). We believe the Father, Son and Holy Spirit each have distinct, equal personalities and roles in the Trinity (John 15:26; 1 Peter 1:2,18; Titus 3:5).

Christ as God and Man: We believe Jesus is God incarnate, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin in Bethlehem as scripture prophesied (Matt. 1:18, Micah 5:2, Apostle’s Creed).

We believe Jesus Christ was both fully a human man and fully God (1 John 4:2; Mark 14:61-62). His physical body acted and reacted as ours to His environment (Luke 2:40; John 4:6). Yet, He displayed attributes of His deity in His sinless life, miracles, self claims to deity and His worthiness of being worshiped (John 8:46, Matt. 14:19; John 8:58, Phil. 2:9-11).

Virgin Birth: We believe Jesus is God incarnate, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin in Bethlehem as scripture prophesied (Matt. 1:18, Micah 5:2, Apostle’s Creed).

Crucifixion and Resurrection: We believe in the necessity of Jesus’ death on the cross.  It is the means of salvation and deals with man’s sin canceling the guilt and condemnation once and for all. It offers reconciliation between man and God. The cross offers a symbol of perfect obedience in Jesus following His Father’s will. (1 Cor. 15:3; Rom. 3:26; Col 2:14; Matt. 26:39)

We believe the atoning work of the cross is the final payment meant to prove God’s just nature and bring Him glory. We believe the atonement, even though offered to the world, is meant only for those who will repent and turn to God (Rom 5:8; Acts 17:30).

We believe Jesus’ resurrection is the most important part of God’s salvation plan. Because He rose the gospel is true and the Son is equal with God the Father. His sacrifice was found acceptable and His blood ransomed many. The resurrection was prophesied in the Old Testament, foretold by Christ Himself, and witnessed by many reliable witnesses.

Sinfulness of man: We believe in the total depravity of man, sinful from birth, incapable of saving himself from his sin without the Savior’s intervention. ( Rom. 5:8; Rom. 8:11; John 1:12).

Salvation by grace and faith: We believe salvation is necessary in order to repair the separation that occurred between God and man at the fall. We believe all have sinned and the penalty of our sin is death. We believe the only rescue for condemnation was Christ’s substitutionary death on the cross. (Rom. 3:23; 6:23; 5:8)

We believe sinful, fallen, ungodly man can only be justified through the saving work of Christ on the cross. Man placing their faith in Christ, will bring the blessing of being at peace with God and obtaining access to God’s grace, joy, and hope. (Rom. 3:24,26,28; 5:1-2).

We believe efficacious grace is for those elected into God’s kingdom. We believe common and efficacious grace work together in that common grace displays the glory, goodness and just nature of God and efficacious grace is what redeems man for God. It is irresistible and achieves the work of salvation toward the elect sinner it was meant for. It is a source of comfort to the believer by the fact that efficacious nature of this grace is secure.

Formation of the Church: We believe, both the universal and local church were born on the day of Pentecost with the arrival of the promised Holy Spirit (Acts 2:2-4).

We believe the purpose of the church, both universal and local, is evangelism, discipleship, edification, prayer, service, and discipline (Acts 5).

Authority of Scripture: We believe the Bible to be the fully inspired, infallible, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:21).  us

Return of Christ:  We believe Jesus is the prophesied King of the Old Testament. We believe He is reigning at the right hand of God His Father and will come again to judge the living and the dead and establish His kingdom on the new heaven and earth. (Isa. 9:6-7; Luke 1:31-33).

We believe there are three bodily resurrections, the order being: The resurrection of Christ, the resurrection of believers at Christ’s Coming and the resurrection of unbelievers at the end of the millennium.

We believe Christ was the first to be raised from the grave with an incorruptible body, a foreshadowing of the later believers’ resurrection (Rev. 1:18; Col. 1:18).

Final Judgement: We believe Jesus Christ will be the final and only judge and everyone, both living and dead, must appear before Him at The Great White Throne (or Final) Judgement (Matt. 25:32; Rom. 14:10; 2 Tim. 4:1)

We believe Christ’s judgement is not to determine a person’s salvation but to make their true hearts known (Matt. 10:32-33; Rom. 2:6).
